Description

Kaltbach Alpine is a firm pressed, deliciously smooth Swiss mountain cheese made using the finest fresh Swiss cream and cows milk. It has everything you would expect from an alpine cheese: a creamy, buttery, slightly nutty flavour, and it makes an excellent alternative to Gruyère when cooking.

The cheese is matured in caves found in the Santenberg mountain in Switzerland, where cheeses have been aged since the 1950s. The humid, cool temperatures of the Kaltbach sandstone caves give the cheese its distinctive character and enhance the flavour considerably.

Semi-firm in consistency, with a thick brushed rind and a rich, melt-in-the-mouth texture.

How much to buy

A whole cheese weighs approximately 4kg. If you would like a whole cheese, please contact us and we can arrange it for you.

All cheeses are hand cut, therefore the weights listed are approximate. We work very hard to cut them as accurately as we can and happy to offer advice on purchasing the right amount if you are unsure. If you would like a price for larger weights or whole cheeses, please call us.

Delivery

Your cheese is cut fresh to order, wrapped and packed by hand and delivered on the day you choose. We deliver across the UK from Tuesday to Friday each week. If you are ordering for a gift or special occasion we advise you to always allow an extra day in case of any unforeseen courier delays.

Recipe / pairing suggestion

Use it anywhere you would use Gruyère: a gratin, a soup topping, a proper croque monsieur. On a board, cured meats and cornichons.

Aged in sandstone caves since the fifties. Better than Gruyère for cooking, and I will defend that.

FAQ

How should I store my cheese once it arrives?

Cheese is best kept in the fridge wrapped in the waxed paper or packaging it arrives in. Avoid plastic wrap, as cheese needs to breathe.

How long will my cheese last?

Most cheeses will last 1-2 weeks if stored properly. Harder cheeses tend to last longer than soft cheeses.

Do you deliver nationwide?

Yes, we deliver throughout the UK mainland. Some remote areas may have longer delivery times.

When will my cheese order arrive?

Orders placed before 12pm are dispatched the same day for next-day delivery. We deliver Tuesday to Friday.

Is your cheese pasteurised?

We stock both pasteurised and unpasteurised cheeses. Each product page clearly states whether the cheese is pasteurised.

Do you offer subscriptions or cheese boxes?

Yes! We offer both rolling subscriptions and pre-paid subscription boxes. Visit our Subscriptions page for more details.

Can I visit your shop and café?

Absolutely! Our shop and café is located at 1 St Martin's Lane, Lincoln. We're open Monday to Saturday.
