About us
Founded in 1997 by Kate O'Meara, The Cheese Society began as a mail-order business offering rare and exceptional farmhouse cheeses. With a background in hospitality and retail, Kate opened our Lincoln cheese shop and the UK's first cheese-focused café in 2001, creating a unique destination for cheese lovers.
Her daughter Lucie joined in 2016, bringing her design expertise and a shared passion for cheese, helping us make online cheese shopping simple and enjoyable.
Today, we're still based in the heart of Lincoln, proudly run by a dedicated team of cheesemongers who source the best cheeses to share with our loyal customers both online and in-store.

When can I get my cheese delivered?
Our cheese is available for delivery Tuesday - Friday each week, and ships overnight with Royal Mail. This allows us to offer next day delivery to almost the entire UK, and the cut off for next day delivery is 12pm the day before.
When can I collect my cheese?
Your orders can be collected from our shop in Lincoln Wednesday - Saturday each week, or alternatively from our warehouse Monday - Friday each week.
How long will my cheese last in shipping?
Our cheese is packed in thermally insulating foil bags, along with a food-grade ice pack. Under normal conditions, this will keep the cheese in good condition for approximately 48 hours. This can be affected by the ambient temperature outside, though we take precautions such as adding additional ice packs to help protect against excessive or unusual heat
How long will my cheese last in the fridge?
Once cut, most of our cheeses will have a best before date of 12-14 days when stored properly. We recommend keeping the cheese wrapped in our breathable wax paper in the fridge, as this will help stop the cheese from ‘sweating’, and help it last longer.
What happens if I’m not in when it arrives?
If your delivery arrives while you’re not in, the delivery drivers are instructed by default to find a safe location to leave your parcel. You can also give more specific instructions at our checkout, which will then be passed on to the delivery drivers!
What should I do when my cheese arrives?
Once your cheese arrives with you, we recommend putting it in the fridge for a while for it to firm up after the transit.
Can I put a gift message in my delivery?
Yes you can! At the checkout page, there will be a box in which you can type out a gift message. This will then be printed in a gift card inside your delivery!
Does it come in a gift box? How does it arrive?
Our cheese is first wrapped in breathable wax paper, which is then packed into a thermally insulative bag along with a food-grade ice pack. This is then wrapped with paper, and placed within a lovely Cheese Society gift box, along with a gift card, and (if relevant) some tasting notes. All of this is then typically wrapped in a recycled shipping bag, sealed, and then sent on to you!
