Description

Blacksticks Blue is a golden-hued, blue-veined cheese with a creamy texture and a buttery, distinctive bite, made from pasteurised milk taken from the farm's own pedigree herd. The blue is moderate rather than overpowering, and it converts a good many people who say they do not like blue cheese.

It comes from the award-winning Butlers' Inglewhite Dairy in Lancashire, a genuine family business, and has been called the daddy of all blue cheeses by the chef Simon Rimmer.

A moist dark exterior contrasts against the vibrant orange body, that colour coming from annatto, a natural product of a South American shrub. It is made in the traditional way with open vats and hand turning, then matured for eight weeks to develop its distinct colour and texture.

How much to buy

It really depends on the occasion, and, of course, how much you love cheese!

As a general guide, for a cheeseboard serving 6 people, we recommend allowing 40–60g of each cheese per person, with 3–4 different cheeses at around 250g each. This gives you a good variety of flavours and textures, with enough for everyone to enjoy without creating too much leftover cheese.

For parties, weddings, events or larger gatherings, the amount you’ll need can vary depending on how the cheese is being served and what else you’re offering. Our cheesemongers are always happy to help, so please get in touch by phone or email for personalised advice.

Please note: all cheeses are cut by hand; therefore, the weights listed are approximate. We work very hard to cut them as accurately as we can.

Delivery

We send our cheese by Royal Mail Tracked 24, with next-day delivery available across all UK postcodes for £4.99 per parcel. Orders over £60 qualify for free delivery.

We carefully pack every order to help keep your cheese in the best possible condition during transit. Royal Mail are very reliable, and most parcels arrive within 24 hours, but occasional delays can happen.

If you’re ordering cheese for a special occasion, party or event, we recommend having it delivered a couple of days beforehand. This gives you some extra time in case of an unexpected courier delay and allows the cheese to rest and reach its best before serving.

We currently deliver throughout the UK but do not offer international delivery.

How We Pack Your Cheese

Every order is cut and packed by hand, fresh to order by our team of cheesemongers.

Your cheese is wrapped in breathable waxed paper, which allows it to breathe while helping to protect it during transit and in your fridge. It is then placed inside a thermal foil pouch with a frozen gel pack to keep it cool on its journey. The gel pack will naturally defrost during transit; this is completely normal.

Finally, everything is carefully packed into a branded box to keep your order safe and presentable when it arrives.

We’re also conscious of the environmental impact of packaging. Around 95% of our packaging is recyclable or reusable, and we’re continually looking for ways to reduce waste and make our business more sustainable. We believe great cheese should be enjoyed with consideration for the planet, too.

Recipe / pairing suggestion

Suggestion – Sourdough Crackers

A blue this spreadable is best enjoyed simply over these super crunch sourdough crackers. Add a little sweep pairing on the top like marmalade or a fruit chutney and you've got an incredible bite of cheese.

This is a sensational blue, its buttery, full of flavour but not too punchy. It has a nearly spreadable texture and looks great on a cheeseboard. I enjoy it crumbled over herby butterbeans and kale.

HOW SHOULD I STORE MY CHEESE ONCE IT ARRIVES?

Cheese is best kept in the fridge wrapped in the waxed paper or packaging it arrives in. Avoid plastic wrap, as cheese needs to breathe.

DO YOU DELIVERY NATIONWIDE?

Yes, we deliver throughout the UK mainland. Some remote areas may have longer delivery times.

Orders placed before 12pm are dispatched the same day for next-day delivery. We deliver Tuesday to Friday.
