Description
A hard pressed, full flavoured, powerful and spicy Scottish cheddar named after the island it was made on. A classic cheese for your Burns Night celebrations.
Isle of Mull is hand-made by the Reade family on the Isle of Mull from the milk of their own Friesian cows. Through the summer the herd grazes the richly diverse island pastures, though the famously damp Scottish climate limits how long they can spend outdoors.
The dairy sits just outside Tobermory, close to a whisky distillery. Looking for an alternative winter feed, the Reades began using the leftover mashed whisky grains, which solved a disposal problem for the distillery at the same time. The arrangement continues to this day, and those grains add a great deal to the deep, distinctive flavour of the cheddar.
This is one of the stronger cheddar styles, ideal for anyone who enjoys a punchier flavour and a robust bite.
How much to buy
All cheeses are hand cut, therefore the weights listed are approximate. We work very hard to cut them as accurately as we can and happy to offer advice on purchasing the right amount if you are unsure. If you would like a price for larger weights or whole cheeses, please call us.

Suggestion – DRIVERS MINI PICKLED ONIONS
A sharp pickled onion is the natural foil for a cheddar this powerful. Equally at home on a Burns Night board with oatcakes and a dram.
You get the whisky grains in the finish, which sounds like marketing until you actually taste it. Properly powerful cheddar.
