Description

Please note: due to current import restrictions, this pasteurised alternative is temporarily replacing the classic raw milk Brie de Meaux.

Brie de Meaux Dongé is a full and fruity pasteurised milk cheese, traditionally made to artisan methods. A soft, unctuous texture with easy yet complex, nutty flavours makes it one of our customers' favourites. The cheeses have a very pale yellow centre when ripe, which turns gooey and more flavoursome with maturity.

Between 21 and 25 litres of milk go into a single wheel, which finishes at around 3kg. The cheeses are dry salted and matured on reed mats in cool but not cold conditions, with great care taken to bring the fragile wheels up to peak condition.

The classic Brie de Meaux on which this cheese is based was granted AOC status in 1980 and can only be made in a tightly defined area of the Ile-de-France near Paris, a region that has held on to its rural traditions and hand-crafted production.

How much to buy

A whole Brie de Meaux Dongé weighs approximately 3.2kg. If you would like a full wheel, please contact us and we can arrange it for you.

All cheeses are hand cut, therefore the weights listed are approximate. We work very hard to cut them as accurately as we can and happy to offer advice on purchasing the right amount if you are unsure. If you would like a price for larger weights or whole cheeses, please call us.

Delivery

Your cheese is cut fresh to order, wrapped and packed by hand and delivered on the day you choose. We deliver across the UK from Tuesday to Friday each week. If you are ordering for a gift or special occasion we advise you to always allow an extra day in case of any unforeseen courier delays.

Recipe / pairing suggestion

Suggestion – FOURSEED SOURDOUGH CRACKERS

Pairs well with honey and with a good chutney. Serve at room temperature on a plain cracker so nothing gets in the way.

Not the raw milk original, but a very honest stand-in while the import rules are what they are.

How should I store my cheese once it arrives?

Cheese is best kept in the fridge wrapped in the waxed paper or packaging it arrives in. Avoid plastic wrap, as cheese needs to breathe.
