3. Vacherin Mont D’Or This is a wonderfully, soft, resin scented, seasonal cow’s milk cheese that is eagerly looked forward to enjoy during the colder months of the year. Produced in the mountainous Jura region of France, this cheese is made using the exceptionally sweet milk produced from the famous Montbeliarde cow, which is used during the summer months to make the famous fruity, firm, Comte AOC mountain cheese. 4. Brie with Truffle The flavour has a wonderful aroma of woodland mushrooms and violets. This is a full and fruity raw milk cheese, traditionally made to artisan methods. A soft, unctuous texture and easy yet complex, nutty flavours make this cheese one of our customers’ favourites. Very pale yellow when ripe, with a white, bloomy rind, using between 21-25 litres of milk to produce a single Brie de Meaux which when finished weighs around 4kg. The cheeses are dry-salted and allowed to mature or “Affinage” on reed mats, in cool, but not cold conditions, with the greatest care being taken to ensure that the fragile cheeses are brought up to peak condition. With its AOC status, Brie de Meaux can only come from a tightly defined area in the Ile-de-France near Paris, a region that has maintained its rural traditions and hand-crafted production. 5. Tunworth Tunworth – described as the best Camembert in the world by Raymond Blanc, this English soft cheese is a delicious alternative to the classic. Weighing in at around 220g and presented in its own wooden box, we enjoy this beauty scored over the top with fresh cranberries on top and baked in the oven until soft and bubbling. £10 each. BUY NOW
6. Cote Hill Blue Cote Hill Blue – another local cheese to our shop, this soft creamy blue is a real winner on the festive cheeseboard. 7. Epoisses AOC Epoisses AOC – A sticky, pale orange, washed rind, double cream cheese, washed in MARC DE BOURGOGNE. Creamy pungent centre and a slightly meaty taste. Similar to the first washed rind cheeses dating back to 90 AD, Epoisses de Bourgogne was originally made by the Maroilles Abbey monks in the sixteenth century. Fabulous baked in its box (which is made of wood from the Jura mountains), baked and poured over sliced potatoes or served simply with a nutty slice or two of bread. BUY NOW
8. Machecoulais Machecoulais – a delightfully unique triple cream cheese from the Loire region of France which is presented in an open birch box. Mellow, creamy with hints of lemon zest. 9. Raclette Raclette – A brushed rinded Swiss mountain cheese delicious when cooked on a raclette machine. 10. Colston Bassett Stilton Colston Bassett Stilton – I know it’s obvious but stilton at Christmas just doesn’t get old. A cheese that is undeniably good throughout the year and is always fought over on the cheeseboard on Christmas Day, well in my house anyway. Buttery, mellow and delicious and best on a hot cooked ham or melted over pork pie with fruit chutney. Who are we kidding, everyone loves stilton at Christmas. £2.30 per 100g. BUY NOW
