Picos Blue Valdeon is a strong, spicy blue, characterful cheese with a smooth rich flavour and creamy texture, hand wrapped in maple leaves. Artisan made in small batches in the mountains of “Picos de Europa“.
Made with mixed cow, goat and ewe milk and cured in abandoned mines and caves, this cheese has a buttery, slightly salty blue bite. It goes really well with hazelnuts and prunes.
Valdeon is protected by its PGI status which means it can only be produced in the Posada de Valdeón, a province of León in Northern Spain. The cheese is also known as Picos de Europa after the mountains where it is made.
Pair with a fruity cider to balance the salty flavour of the cheese.
