Livarot AOC originates from a small French town in Normandy, with which is shares its name.
It is one of the oldest known types of French cheeses, dating back to the 16th Century, and is a testament to the culinary history of the region. It has the nickname ‘Le Colonel’ after the striped rind, which matches the stripes of a French Colonel’s uniform.
Brine washed and coloured with annatto, this cheese boasts a bold and complex flavour, with notes of nuts and a tangy and sticky rind. It is commonly paired with cider when served in Normandy, and pairs well with cured meats, roasted nuts and grapes.
The individual cheese weighs approx. 250g.
